A common topic of discussion in my work is around allowing yourself to be supported.

This sounds like something we all should do, but in many instances, people avoid being supported. They push it away.

Help scares them.

Certain types of egos don’t feel safe, worthy, or that they have earned the support, so when someone offers something–help, friendship, or even love–this type of person may reject it.

Furthermore, many people have distorted understandings of what help is and should look like.

They want the morphine.

Not the doctor setting the broken leg.

What happens?

People limp on for years in their pain.

They run from any trigger that they have.

What do you think a monastery or a commune on Mount Shasta often is?

They’re full of runners hoping to find a safer space–a space that won’t trigger any of their issues.

Go Within to See Your Resistance to Help

The suggestion–as always–is to go within. Look for your attachments to suffering and fears of being hurt. Along with that, step into the vulnerable space of being supported by another.

Say, “yes,” to the support.

Then receive it.

Then do it.

Don’t hesitate. Don’t argue.

Do the help that tells you to walk through the fires of healing and spiritual transformation, and find out what the path to spiritual freedom actually is.
