There is a lot of fear in the world today.
Maybe it is better to say that there are a lot more ways to incite fear in others to benefit the inciter than there used to be.
What do I mean?
Political groups incite fear to get people to take action for political causes.
Businesses incite fear to get people to buy products.
Romantic partners incite fear in their partnerships to get the partner to stay with them, have sex, do things, etc.
And all these amazing communications tools–the Internet, radios, televisions, phones, etc.–are regularly used for that purpose.
It’s really ugly how often our psychology gets manipulated, and by the way, how often we are the manipulators in this paradigm.
But there is a way to break out of this fearful trap.
I’ll talk about that in my How to Face Fear class. Sign up on my newsletter if you aren’t already on it to enroll in this class when I announce it.
Fear is a biological reality. We’re not getting away from that. Part of surrender is that we no longer feed into fear through our resistance or agreement with the feeling. That means we learn how to fear less.
Notice the emphasis on “less.” I didn’t see fear-free. If I say that we become free of fear, I am not saying that we don’t have fear. I am saying that we are no longer controlled by the thoughts, emotions, and sensations of fear.
Do you see the difference?
What we will focus on in this online class is how much we create fear.
What we will focus on is how much we believe our thoughts and our emotions. Through our beliefs, we energize and amplify our fears. If we do this too much. we can get stuck in states of anxiety and hypervigilance. We can even give ourselves panic attacks.
Along with this, we have to discuss maintaining a healthy body. The body and emotions are one. There is no separation. An unhealthy body will create an unhealthy emotional balance. Good nutrition, proper rest, full-range of motion activity, quality breathing, and drinking enough water are critical elements to resolving imbalances that may upset people’s emotional homeostasis.
And don’t be quick to decide that you’re doing all five above correctly. In modern society, you most likely are not. Just on the topic of breathing, there are many ways to work with the breath, and we’ll often use the breath on the spiritual path to breathe our way out of difficult emotions like fear.
In short, there are a lot of elements to facing fear. But you can do it. You can learn to fear less.
