There is this splinter in the minds and hearts of Westerners. They feel something is wrong. Something is missing.
Many times, it is described that second way–like there is this
hollowness.
Western Culture has taught us to deal with this nagging feeling and this sense of lack by doing.
So we try and “do” it away by filling up our time with everything imaginable, including:
- Work
- Recreation and adventure
- Children
- Projects
- Boats, cars, phones, devices, and all kinds of things
- Alcohol and other substances
- Video games, music, and movies
- Spiritual experiences, and so much more
It doesn’t work.
And we know this.
Why doesn’t this work?
Addressing the Wrong Issues
If your neck hurts, but it’s because your shoes are too tight and are causing problems with your feet that ripple up to your head, your neck massage isn’t going to help much.
If your neck hurts and you put on a coat, your coat has nothing to do with your neck at all.
This is how we’ve been taught to deal with problems.
The first one is treating symptoms.
The second one is pure neglect.
Even when people try to get to the root of their problems, their investigation tends to be poor.
It’s poor because most people don’t want to see the truth about themselves. They just want the issue to go away.
Focusing on the Wrong Pain, the Wrong Issues
Mistreating Our Sacred Body
The body is sacred. It is the only one we get.
The body is wise.
It is the product of millions of years of evolution. It is an ecosystem of human DNA, bacteria DNA, and all kinds of other things living on and in us. This exquisite and intelligent ecosystem interacts with all the other ecosystems around you in your external environment. You literally live in a web of interacting threads.
It’s beautiful.
However, we’ve come to badly mistreat the body. We do not appreciate air quality and how we breathe. We put the wrong types and amounts of substances and nutrition into our bodies. We’re not active in the right way. We’re not resting in the right way. We’re not drinking good clean water.
We’re not even interacting with light appropriately. (Using Light to Optimize Health–The Huberman Lab Podcast)
And our communities have been shattered in so many ways.
All of this adds up to a body that is constantly nagging at you, yelling at you that it is in need of your help and love!
One Body Issue at a Time
Because of pride, most people won’t deal with what I’m pointing out. This is why dealing with the ego is so critical. The ego and its pride have to get out of the way to accept that you live in a body, and
your feelings, thoughts, and actions are governed by how healthy your body is.
So…
If you feel nagged at, it’s time to start listening to your body. In listening, I encourage you to work on one issue at a time. It can be overwhelming to see how divorced you are from living naturally in a way that supports your body’s ecosystem.
However, when you resolve the real problems. You feel better. In feeling better, you’ll notice some of those nagging feelings go away.
Whenever we address the right issue, we find resolution.
In finding resolution, we find peace in our bodies.
