I loved Christmas as a child. I found it fun to think of gifts to give to my family.
Of course, I also loved the anticipation and the opening of gifts.
I think I loved most that my parents seemed happiest during this time.
After my spiritual awakening, Christmas hasn’t been the same. I see it for what it is: a made-up holiday.
The other side of that is that
we can make it up in any way that we want to.
It’s so unfortunate, however, that people forget this.
The usual resistance to this reality is about what others will think or do, but a lot of other people want to create the holiday differently too. Lots of people are tired of the sense of obligation and materialism and the rushing and expenses and stress. Christmas can be about anything!
Any day can be anything.
Any day can be a Holy-day.
Spiritual Awakening and Holidays
Christmas Joy and Service
One way to think about giving and receiving is from joy and service.
What do you truly enjoy receiving?
Tell your loved ones. Don’t let them guess.
Sometimes the people closest to us don’t know as much about us as we think. Telling people what you enjoy puts them and you in a space where you both can succeed.
Additionally, think about how you can be of service to another.
Ask them what they’d like to receive. Don’t default to assumptions. Ego assumptions get us all into sooooo much trouble.
Finally, I encourage you to think about how you can be of service to your friends circles and larger community. Perhaps, Christmas becomes a day for a community service event like picking up trash in the neighborhood. Or maybe gifts are donations to non-profits and organizations doing important work.
There are a lot of ways to be of service to create a more spiritual sense of Christmas.
You Are Free to Celebrate
Remember that you have the freedom to change these things in your life.
Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate it!
