You are in St. Louis, MO. You want to go to Islamabad, Pakistan.
One teacher says to get on a plane and go east.
Another teacher says to get on a plane and go west.
The untrained student hears polar opposites and assumes one person is wrong.
They’re both right.
Ego Ignorance
The bargaining ego may try to do both.
This person goes west to San Francisco and then goes east to Boston the next day. Going back and forth, this person effectively goes nowhere. They eventually give up and decide the teachers don’t know what they’re talking about.
And when the teacher who comes along and says you have everything you need and don’t need to leave St. Louis, the ego says,
“Yes! This is what I’ve been waiting to hear!”
But this person does no work to shed attachments. The are totally trapped in their ego. Freedom is not realized by continuing to do the same crap over and over again. It’s realized by going within in the correct way.
However, the easy do-nothing-at-all way is seductive. Familiar ideas and patterns are seductive.
Familiar patterns that promise easy solutions win in most situations. This effectively traps the student in suffering in perpetuity.
Elitism Spiritual Video
In some of my facilitated community discussions, we’ve explored elitism. Basically, numerous spiritual people think they’re better than others. The latest addition of being “holier than thou” is to talk about how “unconscious” everyone else is.
Same ego shtick. Different words.
It’s all fear veiled in spiritual pride.
Here’s a new video on the topic:
